When you organise your seminars at the Ecole des Sables, you benefit from the special energy related to contemporary African dances and ontribute to their development in Africa and throughout the world.
Located in Toubab Dialaw, a fishing village 50km south of Dakar, the International Centre for Traditional and Contemporary African Dances, the Ecole des Sables, offers you to organise your conferences and seminars.
200m from very beautiful cliff-bordered beaches, the centre is located above a lagoon, close to the sea and the African savannah full of baobabs. The calm atmosphere of the place is an indispensable asset to the perfect realisation of your professional meetings.
Conference room
With a capacity of about 50 people,
the conference room is equipped with
a video-projector, a retro-projector,
sound system, paper-board, ventilation and translation booths.
It is also possible to adapt it for music lessons, martial arts… Additionally two open air dance spaces (400 and 280sm) are available for workshops.
Accommodation
If you wish to stay a few days, the Ecole des Sables offers a very original environmentally friendly setting. It includes 3 “villages”
of between 7 to 9 bungalows with patios in between. 9 of the 24 bungalows are equipped with individual bathrooms and toilets.
The other bungalows have an easy access to generous and well equipped external showers and toilets.
Meals / Bar The School has a restaurant with a view at the see and the lagoon. It can cater for about 80 people. The restaurant is managed by a charming professional local team. The meals are adapted to everybody’s taste with African and western style cooking.
Leisure / Additional activities In order to enhance your meetings you can benefit to have dance lessons, musical and folkloric animation at the village, excursions by horse into the savannah…
Initiators of the Centre The Ecole des Sables was created in 1996 by the dancer and choreographer Germaine Acogny and her husband Helmut Vogt in order to develop a centre for African contemporary dance. Artistic Director of Mudra Afrique, created by Maurice Bejart and President Senghor from 1977 to 1982, Germaine Acogny is today a real emissary of African Dance and Culture throughout the world. The Ecole des Sables, International Centre for Traditional and Contemporary African Dances trains dancers from all over Africa. It’s a meeting place and place of exchange for dancers from all over the world.
